Air Evac Lifeteam's Region 1 Safety and Pilot of the Year awards announced

Springfield is Most Improved Base of the Year

[August 16, 2010]  SPRINGFIELD -- Kurt Kennard, base pilot supervisor for the Air Evac Lifeteam in Springfield, has been honored with the company's 2010 Region 1 Safety Award. Kennard's region consists of Air Evac Lifeteam bases in Illinois, Missouri and Indiana.

InsuranceThe Safety Award is presented to an employee who has provided a safe working environment and atmosphere for the employees of Air Evac Lifeteam.

"Kurt is an outstanding and very professional pilot that consistently displays a strong safety mindset," said Joe Grygiel, regional director of base operations. "He is a key leader in the development and fostering a strong safety culture at the Springfield base."

Grygiel added that Kennard's "personal commitment to safety and his dedication to working together as a team has enhanced safety for the crew, not just in work performance but in their personal lives. Kurt's commitment to excellence and safety makes him unique and very deserving of this year's Safety Award."

Also from the Springfield Air Evac Lifeteam, Gary Price was awarded as Pilot of the Year. Price's region consists of Air Evac Lifeteam bases in Illinois, Missouri and Indiana.

The Pilot of the Year award is presented to a pilot who has exceeded job expectations by presenting a professional image, is a team player, demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge and skills, and actively pursues opportunities to promote Air Evac through community involvement.

"Gary is a highly motivated and technically proficient pilot who consistently does the right things," said Sam Cain, regional director of flight operations. "He has core values, deep moral commitment and a strong professional work ethic. He also has a great personality and communication skills, which develops an atmosphere that is welcoming and inviting.

"Gary also sets the standard on a strong safety culture, and the crews always know he will perform to the highest of standards, on and off duty."

In addition, the Springfield Air Evac Lifeteam base has been selected as the company's 2010 Region 1 Most Improved Base of the Year. Region 1 consists of Air Evac Lifeteam bases in Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.

The Most Improved Base of the Year award is presented to the base in the Air Evac Lifeteam system that has shown the greatest marked improvements in staff retention and market expansion during the prior 12 months.

"This was a tremendous year for the Springfield base," said Grygiel, the director of base operations for the region. "The morale of this base has been tremendous, and the employees have taken steps to take ownership of the base but also promote Air Evac in the most positive way.

"This base also strives to provide the very best patient care, values continuing education at the base level and for the community, and has shown a commitment to safety. This base is truly a team, and very deserving of this award."
