NORMAL -- Lincoln College-Normal will
offer an SHRM Essentials course for the first time. The four-week
course in October will have sessions just once per week and is
designed for entry-level human resources professionals,
small-business owners and managers with human resources
responsibilities, as well as those considering human resources as a
career. The course will help participants become better versed in
topical areas of human resources practice such as employment law,
effective selection and recruiting, compensation, training, and
performance appraisal and management.

Classes are scheduled to begin on Oct. 6. In addition to benefiting
from the classroom instruction, students also receive a resource
book and access to a secure program website with activities and
reinforcement quizzes. A certificate of completion will be awarded
to those who successfully complete the program. The HR Essentials
program is not the same as the SHRM Learning System course, which is
also offered at LCN. Those who have already earned PHR or SPHR
designation will receive 12 hours of recertification credit for
completing the SHRM Essentials program.
SHRM is a prestigious national organization for human resources
professionals and has local chapters across the country. The
organization encourages development of its members through ongoing
training and by offering professional accreditation.
Lincoln College-Normal is the only SHRM partner college in
central Illinois and offers programs designed to help human
resources professionals prepare for rigorous examinations offered by
SHRM.
