[August 20, 2010]  A two-vehicle accident involving a car and a diesel fuel semi truck closed southbound Interstate 55 yesterday morning for roughly an hour. A diesel fuel spill from the accident had the highway down to one lane until 5 p.m.

The Illinois State Police report says the driver of the car suffered minor injuries but required no treatment at the scene.

The report says the car and truck collided on the Kickapoo Creek bridge after the car struck a guardrail and then collided with the fuel truck.

A puncture to the truck's fuel tank required a hazmat team to be called for cleanup of the 100-some-gallon spill.

Emergency units responded from the Illinois State Police, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Logan County Emergency Management Agency, Logan County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois Department of Transportation, Lincoln Police Department, Lincoln Rural Fire Department, Atlanta Fire Department, Bloomington Fire Department hazmat team and the Lincoln hazmat team..

The cause of the accident is still unknown and the names of the drivers have not been released.
