In other Nymex trading in September contracts, heating oil fell 1.5 cent to $1.941 a gallon and natural gas gained 0.2 cent to 4.068 per 1,000 cubic feet. Gasoline dropped 1.6 cent to $1.865 a gallon.
Benchmark crude for October delivery was down 71 cents at $72.91 a barrel on the ICE futures exchange.
