[August 24, 2010]  A benefit for Dick Logan has been set for Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lincoln. The hours will be 2-6 p.m., with food available at a donation. Foods on hand will be cheeseburgers, pork barbecue, bratwurst, hot dogs and cheesy fries.

From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be a show by the Knights of Columbus New Year's Eve ensemble hosted by Jeff Fults. The ladies' auxiliary will have a bake sale as well.

There will also be a silent auction of gift baskets and a 50/50 drawing.

Tickets for the drawing will sell for $5 each or six for $20 and can be purchased at the K of C Hall during business hours and on the day of the event. Businesses wishing to donate items for a gift basket for the silent auction can call Tom Peifer at 737-9667.

Logan suffered a series of strokes this spring that forced him to give up his business and move to Missouri, where family can attend his needs. All proceeds from the event will go to Dick and his family to help with medical needs during these trying times.

The Quilters at Heart Quilt Guild will have their monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 402 Pekin St. in Lincoln. This month's guest is Mrs. Torgerson, speaking on "Homemade to Ready to Wear." For additional information, please contact Stacie Wachtel at 309-533-1122, 217-732-7029 or staciewachtel@yahoo.com.

The Lincoln Woman's Club will serve breakfast items, lunch and snacks in their air-conditioned building at 320 N. McLean during the art fair and balloon fest. The hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Come and enjoy breakfast pastries, barbecue and hoagie sandwiches, sides, pie, and beverages.

There will be blood drives Monday, Aug. 30, from noon to 6 p.m. at Lincoln Masonic Center (sponsored by the Lincoln Rotary) and Friday, Sept. 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Castle Manor.

Central Illinois Community Blood Center is the only blood provider to area patients of 12 central Illinois hospitals, including Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Hopedale Medical Complex, Memorial Medical Center and St. John's Hospital. Please support these lifesaving events. If you have any questions about donating, you can call 1-866-GIVE-BLD. Walk-ins are always welcome, but to schedule an appointment call Jessica at 1-866-GIVE-BLD (1-866-448-3253), ext. 118, or sign up online at www.cicbc.org.
