This was in contrast to an analyst survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos., which forecast a rise of 1.1 million barrels of crude oil stocks and a drop of 875,000 barrels in gasoline supplies. Shum pegged $70 a barrel as a strong floor price for crude in the near term amid uncertainties about the global economic recovery but expects prices to rise to the high $70s by the end of the year. In other Nymex trading in September contracts, heating oil rose 1.1 cent to $1.947 a gallon and gasoline added 0.8 cent to $1.856 a gallon. Natural gas was up 0.4 cent at $4.043 per 1,000 cubic feet. Brent crude was up 40 cents at $72.78 a barrel on the ICE futures exchange.
