Euro steady against dollar in wake of ECB

[December 03, 2010]  BERLIN (AP) -- The 16-nation euro is steady against the dollar a day after the European Central Bank said it would extend its crisis liquidity measures.

The euro bought $1.3209 in morning European trading Friday, about the same as the night before in New York. The British pound is up to $1.5620 from $1.5584 in New York, while the dollar slipped to purchase 83.64 Japanese yen from 83.90 yen the night before.

The euro has been under pressure recently amid concerns about Europe's debt load, particularly in economically weak countries, with both Greece and Ireland so far needing emergency rescue.

It was helped Thursday after ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet said the central bank would extend its special liquidity measures.
