[December 04, 2010]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons is dropping into "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" to guest star as a sex therapist.

A spokeswoman for the NBC crime drama said Friday that Irons' character runs a sex addiction clinic in the episode to be filmed later this month. It's set to air in early 2011.

Series executive producer Neal Baer said he's "elated" to work with an actor of Irons' caliber. The British actor received an Oscar for "Reversal of Fortune" (1990). He won an Emmy for the 2005 HBO miniseries "Elizabeth I."

In January, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is moving up an hour, to 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, from its current 9 p.m. ET Wednesday home. The series stars Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni.
