The
 past decade has been well represented in the list of warm
Novembers. Ranking in the top 20 were 1. 2001; 5. 2009; 10. 2004;
14. 2003; 16. 2005; and 17. 2006.The highest temperature for the
month was reported at Cairo with 82 degrees on Nov. 13. The lowest
temperature for the month was reported at Mount Carroll with 12
degrees on Nov. 26.
The statewide average precipitation for November was 3.2 inches,
only 0.1 inch below normal. November was exceptionally dry until the
long Thanksgiving weekend arrived. Rains from that period were
widespread and heaviest in the southern half of the state. Amounts
of 3 to 6 inches were common in southern Illinois. The largest
monthly total in the state was at Mount Carmel, which received 7.15
inches.
As a result of the rain, Illinois was removed from drought status
in the U.S. Drought Monitor. A few areas in southeastern and
northeastern Illinois are still considered "abnormally dry" based on
existing rainfall deficits in the 90-day time frame.
