News & Information

Our goal is to provide as much information to our farmers, ranchers, landowners, agribusinesses, non-farm orientated citizens, students, and future email subscribers in the quickest, cheapest, and most efficient way.  Issuing press releases and regular newsletters fulfill our minimal requirements in publicizing information, but as we have learned over the years, it's not enough. The Logan County E-News will be published periodically and used solely to compliment the other avenues of our information dissemination needs.  Subscription is free and the advice is still cheap.  We do not discriminate.  If you know someone that wants to subscribe, share this E-News with them.  If you know someone is not getting their E-News, they should contact our office or check with their Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Email provider and flag the Logan County E-News as "non-spam" or "acceptable".  Every time we issue E-News publications, we receive several returned messages due to the security filters your ISP uses.

What is the FSA Financial Services Website?

-          The FSA now has a website which allows you to generate reports that show both current and historical financial information.

-          Collections: Shows collections received from you and/or on your behalf, including what payment the collections were for and the amount of collection.

Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics will be holding a series of five Farm Economics Summit meetings to help producers navigate through this season of prosperity.

Speakers from the farmdoc team at the University of Illinois will explore the farm profitability outlook and management challenges from several perspectives, including the direction of prices, outlook for farm returns, when to sell corn and soybeans, new tax legislation, land rents, and crop insurance choices. The format for the meeting will be fast-paced and allow plenty of time for questions from the audience.

CREP

Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program to Expand in Illinois

United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency (FSA) has announced a significant expansion of Illinois’ Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP). The Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program is a voluntary land retirement program that helps agricultural producers protect environmentally sensitive land, decrease erosion, restore wildlife habitat, and safeguard ground and surface water. Enrollment is limited to specific geographic areas of the Illinois River and Kaskaskia River watersheds. To determine if your land is in an eligible CREP area and if your land qualifies, contact your local county FSA office.

Sign up starts December 1, 2010 and 105,500 acres may be enrolled on a first come basis.

Eligible CREP participants shall receive incentive payments, annual rental payments and cost-share assistance from FSA, and participants who chose one of the State Conservation easement options receive additional cost-share assistance and a one-time lump sum payment based on soil rental rates and the duration of the easement.

For more information on CREP, contact your local FSA, NRCS, or Soil and Water Conservation District office.
