[December 08, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Mandy Patinkin will star in Rinne Groff's "Compulsion" at The Public Theater next year in New York.

Patinkin, who won a Tony Award in "Evita," plays a man obsessed with the diary of Anne Frank, who in the play is portrayed as a marionette. The cast includes Hannah Cabell and Matte Osian.

The work, directed by Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, was staged this year at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre and the Yale Repertory Theatre. It begins previews in New York on Feb. 1 and opens Feb. 17.

The show is scheduled to run until March 13.

Besides his Tony win, Patinkin also has been nominated for Tonys for "Sunday in the Park with George" and "The Wild Party."
