[December 08, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City's TKTS booth just got really, really small.

The nonprofit Theater Development Fund, which runs the theater district's famed discount-ticket booths, has unveiled an iPhone app that tells users what shows are available in real time.

The app, which through March 1 will be available free at the Apple iTunes store, could cut down on lines at the three TKTS locations in Times Square, South Street Seaport and downtown Brooklyn.

This is the first app endorsed by the Fund, known for its half-price Broadway and off-Broadway ticket booths. An app for the Android system is being worked on.

For those who prefer a more human touch, the Fund also has introduced workers in red jackets who can help patrons at the physical booths navigate the ticket-buying process and advise them on shows.
