[December 09, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- A new report says Broadway theaters were sustained last season once again by tourists and women.

The Broadway League study found that international and domestic tourists accounted for 63 percent of the roughly 12 million Broadway admissions from June 2009 through June 2010. About one-quarter of New York City's estimated 8.6 million international visitors took in a Broadway show.

The report also found that two-thirds of Broadway audiences were female, a new high. The study says almost 70 percent of theatergoers who made the purchasing decisions were female.

The data is based on audience questionnaires distributed throughout the 2009-2010 Broadway season. The League is a clearinghouse for information on the business, demographics and economic impact of Broadway.
