How the major stock indexes fared Thursday

[December 10, 2010]  (AP) -- Stocks closed mixed Thursday as traders waited to see whether a tax compromise brokered by the White House and Republicans will pass the Democratic-controlled House. House Democrats pledged to reject the tax deal as it is currently written.

HardwareThe Dow Jones industrial average fell 2.42, or less than 0.1 percent, to 11,370.06.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 4.72, or 0.4 percent, to 1,233.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 7.51, or 0.3 percent, to 2,616.67.

For the week:

  • The Dow is down 12.03, or 0.1 percent.

  • The S&P is up 8.29, or 0.7 percent.

  • The Nasdaq is up 25.21, or 1 percent.

For the year:

  • The Dow is up 942.01, or 9 percent.

  • The S&P is up 117.90, or 10.6 percent.

  • The Nasdaq is up 347.52, or 15.3 percent.
