[December 10, 2010]  The Logan County Board began its new fiscal year with a special board-of-whole meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Two orders of business were on the agenda:

  1. Discussion on the Economic Development Master Plan and broadband

  2. Hiring administrative assistant

Vice chairman David Hepler asked to begin with the second item as the candidate was there on short notice and had young children at home who might need her attention that evening.

The board met last month to review applications for the position. The process was started with the 28 applications numbered so that no names were made known, thereby placing the focus on the qualifications of the applicants. The board met Wednesday to interview the top four selections for the job. The search was then narrowed to one choice for the position, which requires board approval to hire.

A motion was made, seconded and the board unanimously approved hiring Pamela Meagher as administrative assistant with a starting salary of $28,000, beginning Dec. 27.

Meagher will take over duties from 20-year board administrative assistant JoAnne Marlin, who is retiring.

After the meeting Marlin was all smiles, talking about her future. She said she hopes to do a little more traveling, which she does quite a bit now just keeping up with her active grandchildren here and in Springfield.
