[December 18, 2010]  LONDON (AP) -- Paul McCartney has played a rare lunchtime gig at a tiny London club to try to save the music landmark.

The former Beatle's show before about 300 fans at the 100 Club on Friday was the smallest he had played for more than a decade. The superstar, who is more accustomed to playing at sold-out stadiums throughout the world, was raising money to help owners cope with a steep rent increase.

Tickets for the gig cost 60 pounds ($90). McCartney opened with a version of "Hey Jude" and played several other Beatles favorites.

He is also playing several other Christmas season shows in London.

The 100 Club has hosted the Rolling Stones, The Who, Metallica and other stars.
