Boozer leads Bulls past Pistons in overtime

[December 27, 2010]  AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) --Carlos Boozer had 31 points and 11 rebounds, and Derrick Rose added 23 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to help the Chicago Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons 95-92 in overtime Sunday night.

Rose also had eight assists. Tayshaun Prince led Detroit with 17 points.

InsuranceDetroit sent the game to overtime when Charlie Villanueva tipped home a missed shot with 0.6 seconds left. The Pistons missed three shots on the possession, but grabbed all three offensive rebounds.

Detroit led briefly in the extra session, but the Bulls took advantage of Prince's three straight turnovers to take a 91-88 lead with 1:33 left.

Rodney Stuckey got Detroit within one, but Boozer beat Prince for a layup with 41 seconds to go. Villanueva got it back to one, and Rose missed a 3-pointer, giving Detroit a chance to win.

Stuckey missed an off-balance jumper with 6 seconds left, and Kyle Korver hit a pair of free throws. Villanueva then took contested 27-footer at the buzzer, and missed badly.

Chicago only shot 36 percent in the first half and missed six of 14 free throws, but led 40-34 thanks to a dominant performance on the boards. The Bulls outrebounded Detroit 31-16 in the half, including a 13-12 edge on their own missed shots.

The Pistons regained the lead by scoring the first nine points of the third quarter, but quickly lost Ben Gordon and Stuckey to foul trouble. Within a few minutes, the Bulls built a 57-47 lead.

Misc

Chicago took a 68-57 advantage into the fourth, but more missed free throws prevented the Bulls from putting the game away.

Prince put home his own rebound to make it 85-83 with 41 seconds to go. Rose missed, with Prince grabbing the rebound to set up the dramatic finish to regulation.

NOTES: The Bulls had the game's first 13 offensive rebounds before Greg Monroe got one for Detroit midway through the second period. ... Detroit hadn't played since Wednesday, while the Bulls lost in New York on Christmas. ... Taj Gibson played 30 minutes after sustaining a concussion Dec. 18 against the Clippers. He had only played 14 minutes in the three games since the injury. ... The Pistons have played five overtime games this season, with four coming in Sunday home games.
