[February 01, 2010]  Vince and Janet Long have been able to release unofficial totals of the monthlong VFW fundraiser that culminated on Saturday.

It took a while, as a hectic Saturday with multiple deposits had tabulators trying to keep up as donations and purchases of items and food kept pouring in.

The results are unofficial because money is still coming in.

Vince said that when the day began, the post had banked $9,000.

On Saturday alone a total of $18,335 made its way to the bank as well.

Getting the post up to date allows members to breathe and plan a strategy to keep the post in the black in ensuing years. The total will ensure the post can get all bills current, plus give them a nest egg to get them into the summer months, when another "family-oriented" fundraiser will be held.

Vince said an added bonus of the event is that several members have expressed an interest in becoming more active, and that will help the post in the long term.

Both Longs wanted to express their sincere appreciation to the community for their generosity and giving.

The Longs plan to compile a list of everyone involved in the event, and LDN looks forward to posting the list as soon as completed.

A more detailed story, including honoring all who gave and helped as the week's Personalities of the Week, will be in tomorrow's edition.
