[February 05, 2010]  The Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Lincoln will have a chicken and noodle dinner on Saturday from 3:30 to 7 p.m. This is in conjunction with area Abraham Lincoln birthday celebrations. Dinner will be on the main floor of the building at 915 Fifth St., with carryouts available.

InsuranceVFW Post 1756 sits on a very historic site in Lincoln. That area was once the site of the Deskins Tavern. Once Postville Courthouse was built, many of the lawyers and judges would stay at the Deskins Tavern, taking meals and socializing. A sign commemorating this historic significance is located on the property.

Also, a new sign for the well that sits on site was recently erected through a partnership between Main Street Lincoln and the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County. The well at Postville was built in the early 1840s and was the only well in the area. It was restored in 2003 with a new wood platform and a replica of the hand pump.

The VFW members are proud to be a part of the Abraham Lincoln birthday celebrations and invite the public to join them for this great meal. The VFW has plans to host more dinners throughout the year. For more information, call 217-735-1756.
