[February 08, 2010]  Brock Boss, son of Roger and Connie Boss of Lincoln, is Lincoln and Logan County’s newest certificated pilot. He completed his FAA flight check with the examiner from Peoria on Jan. 10 at the Peoria airport.

HardwareHis instructor is Larry Whitbeck of Lincoln, and he took his training in a Cessna 172 that he and his brother own together. Their aircraft is based at the Logan County Airport.

Boss lives in Bloomington, where he is a computer analyst for State Farm Insurance. He is a graduate of Lincoln Community High School and Illinois State University in Normal.

He comes from a family with significant aviation heritage. Two of his brothers, Sgt. 1st Class Brad Boss and Sgt. Brennan Boss, also Lincoln natives, currently serve in the U.S. Army as flight engineers on the Chinook heavy lift helicopter. His brother Brad is also a certificated civilian private pilot.

His uncle, Marvin Boss Jr. of Lincoln, served as a U.S. Air Force pilot and is the first Logan County pilot to receive the prestigious FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. This award is given only to pilots actively holding a pilot’s certificate for 50 years and never having had an incident or safety violation.
