[February 08, 2010]  Members of the LCHS speech team had a super weekend at the Champaign Centennial Regional, producing a regional champion in one event and adding three double-qualifiers for sectional competition.

"I am incredibly proud and thrilled for the kids," LCHS head coach Katie Conant said. "We've got a lot of hard work and fine-tuning to do this week, but the end result is worth all the hours."

Sophomore Shelby Voyles became regional champion in radio speaking, earning straight first-place rankings from the judges in the final round.

In addition, sophomore Matt Mason and seniors Caiti Wunderlin and Lorenda Kirby each qualified for sectionals in two events. Mason took second place in extemporaneous speaking and third in impromptu speaking.
