[January 04, 2010]  Arctic air combined with northwest winds up to around 10 mph will result in wind chills of 15 to 20 below zero at times Monday morning.

A wind chill advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan and Sangamon, including the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Jacksonville and Springfield.

Wind chill values: Wind chills are expected to drop to between 15 and 20 below zero at times this morning from Interstate 55 west.

Effects: Such low wind chills will result in the potential for frostbite to form quickly. As children return to school this morning, they will be susceptible to the cold while waiting for the school bus or while walking to school.

Precautionary, preparedness actions: A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
