[February 04, 2010]  CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has rejected a call from his Democratic primary opponent that more information be released about the 1,700 inmates secretly released early from state prison.

Comptroller Dan Hynes says Quinn owes the public "a full accounting," including the reason they were serving time in the first place. Some of the inmates have already been sent back for new offenses, including aggravated battery and weapons charges.

On Monday, Quinn said he doesn't need a lecture from Hynes.

Quinn says he has answered all questions about the early release program, which he halted.

But there are several issues Quinn hasn't addressed, including exactly why more than 50 released inmates have been put back in prison.
