New Year's Resolutions

Send a link to a friend

[January 07, 2010]   --Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?’ He said to him, ‘ “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” -Matthew 22: 36-39

January is always a time for New Year's Resolutions.  We look at our lives, if we are introspective at all, and we ask ourselves, "how can I do better this year?"  Often we look first at our waistlines then we think about watching less TV or working harder or some such thing.  But this year I recommend you think about making some New Year's Resolutions pertaining to your faith.  Jesus teaches us that the greatest commandment we received from God is to love Him with heart, soul and mind.  How can you do that better this year?  All of us have room for tremendous growth in living out this commandment and all of us could stand to spend some time thinking about what we might do better.  So pause for a moment, right now, and think about it....Good, now write down what you came up with.  Finally, share it with someone else, a spouse, friend or brother or sister in Christ, or even your pastor!  Now its time to pray!

Prayer:  Holy God, please help me to follow you this year with renewed vigor and passion.  Help me to place you at the center of my life that, in and through you, I might lead a life worthy of your disciple.  I pray in Jesus' name.  Amen
