[February 04, 2010]  It is time to "plunge" into the new year! For individuals interested in taking the Polar Plunge into Lincoln Lakes on March 20, there will be a registration sign-up event at the Lincoln Knights of Columbus Hall, 217 Limit St., on Jan.14 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Law Enforcement Polar Plunge benefits the athletes of Special Olympics.

No money is required to register. The preliminary event will allow participants to sign up, get their packets and get into the spirit of the plunge. You can sign up as an individual plunger or sign up a team, regardless if you know who your team members will be.

Participants are required to turn in a minimum of $75 in pledges on March 21.

Action Rental and Sales will be giving away some door prizes: an Illini video chair, Magnavox DVD/VCR combo and a Channel throw.

DJ for the evening will be Kevin Curry. There will be drink specials and appetizers.

If you are unable to preregister on Jan. 14, you can still sign up to take the plunge:

  • Stop in or contact Roger Matson at Action Rental & Sales to pick up a packet. Phone 217-735-2333.

  • Sign up online at www.soill.org. Click on the "Lincoln Polar Plunge" link.

  • Call the area Special Olympics office, 217-428-9255, or e-mail jkeyes@soill.org.
