Lynx coach Kirk Whiteman said his team didn’t focus to start the
game. "IWU really came out and took it to us in offensive
transition and quite honestly beating us to every loose ball!" he
said. "They played with great energy, and I was very disappointed in
our overall effort in the first half. We went into halftime down
36-37.
"However, we started the second half with much more intensity for
the first 10-12 minutes to push the lead up to 16 points. Our
defense created some offense for us and Louie Schonauer hit three of
his game-high four 3-pointers during this stretch. DeMarius Sumrell
couldn't do anything right defensively in the first half (but)
really sparked us on his off-the-ball defense with some great
steals, while Kenyon Smith did a better job of keeping his man in
front of him defensively. The first 12 minutes of the second half
won the game for us.
"We did a great job of sharing the basketball, which this team
has done all year long. Very unselfish group of players that was
represented in our balanced scoring attack. Kiel Turpin and Louie
Schonauer led Lincoln with 14 points each. Kenyon Smith, Kyler Works
had 11 points each, while Chris Ware chipped in 10 points."
Lincoln improves to 12-4 (2-0) on the season.
Lincoln travels to Parkland on Saturday to play a conference game
at 4 p.m.
