Losing Pa. pol appeals results to Supreme Court

[February 04, 2010]  UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- A southwestern Pennsylvania man who can't believe he received so few votes in a local judge's race is taking his appeal of the results to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Robert Pritchard Sr., of Fairchance, got only 63 votes in the May primary for district judge. The winning incumbent got 2,900 votes and another challenger got 957.

Pritchard says some votes could be illegal because Fayette County hasn't properly purged 25,000 dead or unregistered voters from its rolls. County attorneys say that even if Pritchard's complaint were true, it wouldn't account for his lopsided loss.

Pritchard wants the results of his election and others dating to 2002 nullified and new elections held. His case has been rejected by two state appeals courts.
