Schmidt, a physical therapy assistant, was named January Employee of
the Month at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital after a rave review
from a co-worker. She was praised for making every attempt to meet
all patients' needs, while implementing new processes in her
department and tackling a variety of projects on top of her regular
responsibilities.
"Alyssa manages the creative organization of extracurriculars
with effective time management and nary a complaint," says Cindy
Edwards. "Alyssa ... deserves to be recognized for her part in
helping our hospital succeed and just plain and simply for creating
a better place for me to work."
Schmidt has an associate degree in physical therapy from Illinois
Central College. She also earned a bachelor's degree in
organizational leadership in 2007 from Greenville College.
Physical therapy assistants are required to have a minimum of an
associate degree. They work hands-on with patients.
"The thing I enjoy about my job is the variety of people I meet
every day," Schmidt says. "However, the most important thing is when
I am able to help them return to full health and function. That is
rewarding!"
She says her career is ideal for someone who wants to help others
and be able to see their health improve. It's also great for those
who like a different challenge every day, she adds.

Working at ALMH is like working with a family, Schmidt says, and
her department works well as a team.
"There are not many places like ours that you can say that
about," she says. "Thanks to my co-workers for making this a great
place to work!"
ALMH employs more than 290 in a wide variety of job functions. A
different employee is honored each month for their commitment to
creating great patient experiences, getting great results and making
ALMH a great place to work.
