'Love Story' author Erich Segal dies at 72

[February 04, 2010]  LONDON (AP) -- The daughter of "Love Story" author Erich Segal says her father has died at 72.

Francesca Segal says her father died Sunday at his London home from a heart attack and a funeral was held Tuesday.

"Love Story," a novel about a young couple dealing with love and bereavement, was turned into a film in 1970. The movie was nominated for seven Oscars, including best writer, best picture, best director and best actor and actress. It won only for best music.

Segal was a fellow of Wolfson College at Oxford University.

He is survived by his wife, Karen James, and daughters Francesca and Miranda.
