City to begin tree-trimming

Send a link to a friend

[January 22, 2010]  The street department in Lincoln is starting its annual tree-trimming program. The crew will trim trees in the Starkey Acres subdivision. Streets in this subdivision are Ophir Avenue, Rhoads Avenue, Richland Avenue, Rochelle Avenue, Rutledge Drive, Nicholson Road and Feldman Drive.

The crew will trim all trees that hang over the street or sidewalk. If the tree is not a city tree, workers will only trim it back to the edge of the city’s right of way. Some trees will appear to be trimmed higher than others due to the nearest location of the leader or upright stem. Trimming is done so that there is clearance for pedestrians and traffic of all heights.

While trimming, the crew will inspect the trees for dead or decaying branches, cracked or splitting branches, crossing and rubbing branches, and vertical sprouts from roots and branches, among other things.

If you have any questions or comments, you can call the street department at 732-4655 between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. or e-mail the superintendent at tjackson@cityoflincoln-il.gov.
