[January 27, 2010]  Illinois Cares Rx and Circuit Breaker

It's time to file your Illinois Cares Rx form as soon as you get all the financial information to complete your application. The Oasis senior center is taking appointments to start Feb. 1. Call 732-6132.

Free tax assistance program

The Oasis is pleased to offer FREE tax assistance during the 2010 filing season. The center will offer electronic filing in a timely manner. Volunteers will take appointments Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Oasis will also offer an off-site location in Mount Pulaski to file your simple tax return at Vonderlieth Living Center on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Call The Oasis for an appointment at 732-6132.

The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director.

Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Free blood pressure checks

The Oasis Senior Center offers FREE checking of blood pressure every Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

VA services

The Veterans Administration representative will be at The Oasis every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Feb. 2 features sloppy joes, tater tots, pasta salad and dessert. Suggested donation is $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay to play cards. Deadline for reservations is noon Feb. 1.

Tuesday night bingo at senior center

The Oasis sponsors bingo at the senior center each Tuesday. Doors open at 4 p.m., sales begin at 5:30, and the early bird game starts at 6:30.
