[June 29, 2010]  The Lincoln Jaycees are sponsoring a cosmic bowling fundraiser at Logan Lanes on July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. Fun for the whole family includes two hours of unlimited "cosmic" bowling -– with lights, music and fog -- and free shoe rental. There will also be a raffle and 50/50 drawing. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by contacting Kim Frizzell at 217-871-4940.

The Lincoln Jaycees, a not-for-profit organization that serves Lincoln and the surrounding communities, gives young people between the ages of 18 and 40 the tools they need to build the bridges of success for themselves in the areas of business development, management skills, individual training, community service and international connections.

The Lincoln Jaycees host various community activities such as an Easter egg hunt, their Haunted House, Senior Feast, Breakfast with Santa and Angel Tree.

Membership meetings are the third Thursday of every month, 7 p.m., at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Meetings are open to the public.

The Cap and Gown Chapter of Mortar Board, MacMurray College's premier honor society, inducted 17 members for the 2010-11 academic year. Membership is granted to high-achieving juniors who then serve in Mortar Board during their senior year.

Megan Conklin, a special education major, was one of those inducted. Megan is a graduate of Greenview High School and the daughter of Mike and Connie Conklin of Middletown.

The Mount Pulaski VFW Post 777 will serve a fried chicken dinner on the town square, across from the historic Mount Pulaski Courthouse, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on July 4.

The menu will feature fresh chicken, vegetable, salad, dessert and drink for $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger. Children under 3 eat free. The day's events include a citywide garage sale and the annual fireworks show in the evening.

In Lincoln, the 4th of July Fireworks & Celebration Committee invites the public to a three-piece fried chicken fundraiser dinner on July 2. The meal will be served at the American Legion, 1740 Fifth St., from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The menu will include potato salad, baked beans, roll and beverage.

All proceeds from the dinner will be used to offset the costs of Lincoln's fireworks.

Cost is $7 per ticket and advance purchases may be made at Lincoln Park District headquarters.

Anyone wanting to donate toward the expenses of the fireworks can do so at any time. Your gifts will allow the tradition of hometown fireworks to remain a reality. Make your donation checks payable to Lincoln Fireworks Fund in care of Lincoln Park District, 1400 Primm Road.

Any area resident wishing to be a member of the 4th of July Fireworks & Celebration Committee is encouraged to join. Simply ask one of the committee members working the chicken dinner or call the Lincoln Park District at 732-8770.
