[July 02, 2010]  McCOMB, Miss. (AP) -- A woman who reached for her telephone after dropping it on the floor in her apartment said she saw a snake staring up at her.

Candy Sudduth told The Enterprise-Journal the snake looked as if it was getting ready to bite her on Wednesday at her home in Community Park Apartments.

Sudduth's brother, Xavier Wells, killed the snake with a shovel. Wells said the snake looked like a cottonmouth, which is poisonous. Sudduth believes it came in through cracks in her apartment.

Apartment manager Sheron Harris said a maintenance crew was sent to the apartment to fill the cracks.
