Fatal crash in county claims life of Lincoln woman

[July 04, 2010]  A report issued by Illinois State Police District 9 states that an unidentified Lincoln woman was killed in a crash on Route 121 Saturday afternoon. The following is the information received so far.

Incident: Two-vehicle fatal crash

Location: Route 121 just south of County Road 1411, Logan County, approximately three miles south of Lincoln

Date, time: July 3, 1:07 p.m.

Individuals involved:

  • Unit one, 71-year-old female, of Lincoln

  • Unit two, 87-year-old female, of Lincoln

Narrative:

Unit one was northbound on Illinois Route 121 in a 1995 Buick Century. Unit two was southbound in a 1999 Pontiac. For reasons unknown, the driver of unit one crossed the centerline into the southbound lane, and the front of unit one struck the front of unit two.

The driver of unit one was transported to Abraham Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of unit two was taken to Memorial Hospital in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles received major damage.

The name of the deceased will be released by the Logan County coroner.
