Lincoln begins E-Pay for residents

[July 10, 2010]  Friday afternoon Lincoln City Clerk Denise Martinek announced that the city of Lincoln is now able to accept electronic payments via the Internet for sewer bills, parking tickets and ordinance violations.

Martinek along with Alderwoman Melody Anderson, who chairs the finance committee for the city, have long hoped to get this type of payment option set up and available to Lincoln residents.

To access the payment page, first visit the city of Lincoln website at http://www.cityoflincoln-il.gov/, then scroll down the page to the E-Pay button located on the left-hand margin.

Clicking that button will redirect you to another website where you may choose what type of bill you are paying. To be assured that you are on the right page, the new website's top banner says "Brought to you by Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and..." followed by "City of Lincoln" and beneath that "Denise Martinek, City Clerk."

As an example, when you click on "Sewer Bill," a new page comes up where the sewer account number is required along with the physical address of the account.

On that page, you can identify what type of card you will be using for your payment, or you may choose to pay with an electronic check.

Currently the credit cards that are accepted by the system are MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

According to Martinek, Visa is not available at the moment but will be in the near future.

Those who use this service will be charged a small administrative fee. This fee is not collected by the city nor does it benefit the city in any way.

Anyone who has questions about the new system is invited to contact the city clerk's office in City Hall at 700 Broadway St., or call 217-735-2815.
