Dr. James Borgerson

[July 13, 2010]  MOUNT PULASKI -- James Borgerson, M.D., 77, of Mount Pulaski, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at 4:10 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center.

There will be a private family graveside service. A public memorial service at Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran Church will be announced later. The clergyman is the Rev. Glenn Strohschein.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Dr. Borgerson established his private family medical practice in Mount Pulaski and operated it for 44 years until his retirement in 2004.

He was born May 6, 1933, at Cando, N.D. His parents were Minor Johannus and Mabel Briggs Borgerson. He married Margaret E. Dana on May 24, 1958, in Mount Pulaski.

He is survived by his wife, of Mount Pulaski, and three daughters, Angela (and Jim) ReVeal of St. Louis, Mo., Lynne (and Tony) Borgerson Morefield of St. Louis, Mo., and Dr. Lara Borgerson of New Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He served his community as a founding member of Vonderlieth Living Center and had been on the Vonderlieth Living Center board since its inception in 1972.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Mount Pulaski and served on several church committees. He was a member of the Mount Pulaski Board of Education, was on the board of governors of ISMIE Mutual and was a longtime member of the Illinois State Medical Society.

Funeral Director

He was an active member of the Springfield and Corn Belt Philatelic Societies.

Jim was an avid gardener and shared his harvest, especially popcorn, with many.

He grew up in Missoula, Mont., and graduated from the University of Montana. He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from Northwestern University in 1958.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Preschool, Zion Lutheran Church or Vonderlieth Living Center, all in Mount Pulaski.
