Stock futures climb after upbeat Apple results

[July 21, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stock futures are rising modestly as investors focus more on an upbeat earnings report from Apple than disappointing results from Yahoo.

Traders are trying to get a read on the economy through companies' profit reports, but earnings have been mixed over the past week, which has led to volatile trading.

More certainty about the health of the economy could come Wednesday from testimony by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. The Fed chief is expected to say the economy is growing slowly, but is unlikely to fall back into recession.

Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 17, or 0.2 percent, at 10,195. Standard & Poor's 500 index futures are up 2.70, or 0.3 percent, at 1,082.80, while Nasdaq 100 index futures are up 13.50, 0.7 percent, at 1,853.25.
