[July 21, 2010]  (AP)  Showers and thunderstorms were expected to continue throughout the East on Wednesday as a nearly stationary front continued bringing instability to the atmosphere.

The main area of concern for thunderstorms was forecast to shift northward a bit and would encompass the northern Plains and the Northeast. Along the coast, the northern Mid-Atlantic states would also see the potential for strong thunderstorms to develop.

Along with the continued threat of thunderstorms, temperatures would remain warm throughout the nation. Highs wouldn't be as hot as Tuesday's heat, but upper 80s and 90s were anticipated throughout the Eastern Seaboard as well as into the southern Plains. The usual hot spots such as the Gulf Coast and Florida would also remain hot. The Southwest would also stay hot Wednesday as the region was expected to see another day where temperatures in many areas topped 100 degrees and the hottest spots rose over 110 degrees.

The West Coast states would continue seeing pleasant weather inland, but coastal locations were expected to see foggy conditions hang on for at least another day. The cool coastal fog would bring some drizzle with it in addition to keeping temperatures close to 60 degrees.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
