Logan
County recently had several 4-H members participate in the
Illinois 4-H Dairy Judging Contest at University of
Illinois in June. In individual judging, Todd Irwin came in first
place for dairy and Dawn Irwin placed 10th out of 35 contestants.
The county dairy judging team
consisting of Todd Irwin, Dawn Irwin and Sarah Irwin placed third
out of 15 teams at this state event.
To learn more about dairy or
livestock judging opportunities or how to get involved in the 4-H
program, contact the Logan County 4-H office at 732-8289.
The
Illinois Young Rodeo state finals will be Aug. 7 and 8 at the
Rawlings Arena in Delavan. Young riders, kindergarten through 8,
will be competing. Admission is free. Take Interstate 155, Exit 15,
turn left, and it's the first building on the left (watch for
signs).
As
the 2010 Illinois State Fair rapidly approaches, so does the
deadline to enter the Dog Photo Contest, Baby Photo Contest and
talent competition.
The deadline for each competition
is Aug. 1. Entry forms for the contests are available in the Special
Events Office, located in the Emmerson Building on the Illinois
State Fairgrounds. Fairgoers wanting to enter the Dog Photo Contest
or Baby Photo Contest will need to send in a 5-by-7-inch photo, in
color and attached to a 7-by-9-inch white poster board. Dog photos
must be taken within the last six months and will be judged in
either the Cutest Dog or Craziest Dog Costume categories, but not
both. Only one entry per category per dog is allowed, and judging
will be based on personality and appeal. All baby photos, along with
the winner ribbons, will be on display in the Kids Korner (south of
the Emmerson Building) during the fair.
