[July 27, 2010]  CHESTNUT -- Gerald A. Schmidt, 67, of Chestnut, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 1:30 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Pastor David Hofer officiating. There will be no family visitation prior to the service.

Following the service, the family will have private burial at Mount Pulaski Cemetery, Mount Pulaski.

Mr. Schmidt owned and operated Schmidt Trucking while engaged in full-time farming. The business has been operated by the Schmidt family since 1942.

He was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Lincoln. His parents were Paul Otto and Evelyn E. Mittelsteadt Schmidt. He married Judith Ann Lucas on June 14, 1964, in Mount Pulaski.

He is survived by his wife, of Chestnut; one daughter, Laura (and Joe) Garcia of Woodbury, Minn.; one son, Jerry Schmidt of Mount Pulaski; and two sisters, Wilma (and Mel) Pofahl of Lexington, Ky., and Helen Ann Schmidt of Mount Pulaski.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Schmidt.
