[July 30, 2010]  Back to school -- As families are getting their kids ready to go back to school, don't forget to add a library card to the school supply list. Be ready to find the information for those reports, projects and various assignments that are just around the corner.

Used Book Sale

The library's annual Used Book Sale takes place each year during the Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival. Come to the Carnegie Building Aug. 28 or 29 and choose books for purchase by the bag. The sale is open that Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Lincoln Public Library is located at 725 Pekin St., with adult nonfiction and reference materials in the historic Carnegie Building. The Annex Building directly behind houses adult fiction and the Youth Services Department. All library events are free and open to the public. On the Web, visit www.lincolnpubliclibrary.org.

Hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Phone 217-732-8878 for adult services and 217-732-5732 for youth services.

I didn't know that...

  • The library has a copy of the required summer reading assignments for English classes for students attending LCHS.

  • The library has a typewriter for free in-house use in the Carnegie Building, first-come, first-served.

  • The library offers free access to its Wi-Fi signal in both buildings.

  • You can access several useful sites from the library website's main page, such as Shelfari, World Book Web, NoveList and Library on the Go.

  • The library has book bags for sale for $1.25 each. The bags are made from 100 percent recycled materials and are perfect for books, groceries and other errands. They can be purchased in either building.
