[June 01, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Police say the 40-year-old son of former ABC anchor Ted Koppel (KAHP'-puhl) has been found dead in a New York City apartment.

Detective John Sweeney said Andrew Koppel was declared dead at around 1:30 a.m. Monday in a Washington Heights apartment in Manhattan. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Police say Koppel was a resident of Queens. He was one of Ted Koppel's four children.

Ted Koppel was the longtime anchor of ABC's news show "Nightline." A call to his publicist was not immediately returned Tuesday.

The New York Post reports Koppel had been drinking for hours with a man he met at a bar, and they eventually went to the apartment. Drinking partner Russell Wimberly told the Post that Koppel later appeared not to be breathing and he called 911.
