The honor guard and rifle squad is commanded
by former Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447 Commander Bob McCue, and the
bugler is Alan Roos of Chestnut, former Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447
commander. Roos says he first performed taps with his bugle as an
eighth-grade student, 65 years ago.
Joe Lucas, former commander of Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447, handled
the ceremonial duties at Steenbergen Cemetery. The Rev. David Hofer
handled the invocation and benediction at all three sites.
delicious "Dixie Southern Pulled Pork BBQ" sandwich buffet was held
in the Mount Pulaski American Legion Hall following the services.
Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447 "What Memorial Day
Means to Me" essay winners were
Miss Emma Stewart at the grade school level and Miss Haley Bowles in
Each student received a savings bond. Over 40 students submitted
essays this year, supported by their teachers.
Phil Bertoni, commander of Mount Pulaski American Legion
Post 447, was the master of ceremonies, while the Rev. David Hofer,
retired St. John's Lutheran minister and temporary minister of Mount
St. John's Lutheran Church, handled the invocation and benediction.
