[June 02, 2010]  (AP)  Severe weather was forecast to continue developing along a warm front tracking through the Midwest on Wednesday.

A lHardwareow pressure system in the central Plains created a warm front that kicked up some severe weather in the northern and central Plains. On Wednesday, this system would continue producing active weather as the system pushed the front over the Mississippi River and up the Ohio River Valley throughout the day. This system was expected to bring periods of heavy rain, hail and damaging winds in areas of thunderstorm development. Most areas would see a quarter to a half an inch, with up to an inch in areas of severe weather. This would allow for flooding problems to return to the valleys and down the Mississippi River.

The East Coast, however, would see a break in wet weather as a low pressure system moved offshore and a mild ridge of high pressure built in to dry out the region. The Northeast and New England would see mostly sunny skies throughout the day, with a chance for storms later in the day, as the front approaches from the central U.S. in the afternoon and evening. Most of the Midwest, Great Lakes and New England would remain in the 80s on Wednesday.

Active weather persisted in the Southeast as warm and humid conditions would allow for scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop. These storms did not have a history of producing severe weather but would be capable of producing some strong winds and heavy downpours.

In the West, another unseasonably rainy day was anticipated across the Northwestern U.S. A low pressure system moved onshore, spreading scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest. This system would push a cold front over the West Coast that might kick up some periods of heavy rain with rainfall totals ranging between 1-3 inches from Washington to northern California.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 27 degrees at Flagstaff, Ariz., to a high of 102 degrees at Bullhead City, Ariz.
