Audra Van Hoorn

[June 01, 2010]  McLEAN -- Audra Grace Van Hoorn, 79, of rural McLean, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at 7:20 p.m. at her home.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McLean United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Andrew Maxwell officiating.

Visitation will be at the church from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Burial will be in McLean Cemetery, rural McLean.

Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Van Hoorn retired from the Mount Hope-Funks Grove Township Library after 30 years of service.

She was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Eminence Township. Her parents were Leland "Nick" and Bertha Beare Bicknell. She married George Van Hoorn on Dec. 2, 1950, at the Eminence Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband; her children, Carolyn (and David) Lindley of Glenview, Randy (and Laura) Van Hoorn of McLean, Jim Van Hoorn of McLean and Chuck (and Debbie) Van Hoorn of Congerville; one sister, Alice Turner; one brother, Richard (and Jan) Bicknell of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Bryan Van Hoorn, Christina (and J.W.) Dunnan, Ryan Lindley, Katie (and Jason) Fulk and Jacob Van Hoorn; one great-granddaughter, Delainey Dunnan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a member of the McLean United Methodist Church. She was a strong Christian who began teaching Sunday school at age 12 and continued teaching until the time of her death.

She graduated from the Atlanta Community High School in 1948.

Audra was known and loved throughout the McLean-Atlanta area. She was involved in multiple organizations: The Flower Buds of Atlanta, Methodist Women's Club, Ladies Aid, McLean American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge and played with several clubs for decades.

Funeral Director

She volunteered as a tour guide for the Atlanta Historical Museum and volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. She and her husband organized the McLean Fall Festival parade for years.

She loved her family, her friends, her community and her Lord.

Memorials may be made to the McLean United Methodist Church, the Mount Hope-Funks Grove Library or the Atlanta Historical Museum.
