Also, an area of concentrated showers and thunderstorms would move through the eastern Plains into the upper Mississippi Valley early in the day. The heaviest precipitation would fall early in the day in southern Nebraska and southern Kansas.

Heat advisories were in effect for the lower Mississippi Valley and parts of the southern Plains as heat indexes were expected to rise over 100 degrees for many areas. In addition, daytime heating would produce scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Southeast in the afternoon.

A weak ridge of high pressure would keep the Eastern Seaboard dry, while the Mid-Atlantic would once again warm considerably.

The southern Plains, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic would rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Northeast would see temperatures in the 80s and some 90s. The northern Plains would rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Northwest would see temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Southwest would rise into the 90s and 100s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 26 degrees at Truckee, Calif., to a high of 105 degrees at Goodyear, Ariz.
