[June 22, 2010]  The Quilters at Heart Quilt Guild will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 24, at 6 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 402 Pekin St. in Lincoln. The program will be the annual salad supper. Karen Bailey, owner of Quilt Corner, will be the featured speaker. Come be our guest! "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," a celebration worship service commemorating St. John's Lutheran Church of Hartsburg's 125th anniversary, will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 27, at the church, with Bishop Warren Freiheit and the Rev. David Russell officiating. Immediately following the service, a catered luncheon will be served, and there will be entertainment by a southern gospel group, The Gospelaires. Reservations for the luncheon are $8 per person and can be made by calling 376-3242.

The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight board of directors would like to thank the individuals, businesses and organizations that helped make it possible to fly 138 World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to see their memorial during April and May. A charter flight on June 22 will fly 95 additional veterans. Monetary and in-kind donations, volunteered time, media coverage and the service provided by guardians made these flights possible.

All members and the general public are invited to the Land of Lincoln semiannual meeting on July 10 at 1 p.m. at the Lakeside Christian Church, 225 Toronto Road in Springfield. The board of directors, a financial report, fundraising possibilities and an update on past and future flights will be presented.

If you have any questions, please call Ray Wiedle, chairman, at 314-427-2317 or 217-622-1473.

The Lincoln Rotary Club will have a community food drive on Saturday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at IGA and Walmart. Rotary volunteers will be at the entrance of each location to collect nonperishable food and donations. The goal is to raise over $3,000 in food and cash during the five-hour event. At the event last November, the club raised close to $3,000. All proceeds will be given to Logan County food banks.

For more details on this event, please call Joel Smiley, executive director of the Lincoln & Logan County Development Partnership, at 217-732-8739.
