[June 22, 2010]  The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a flash flood warning in effect for central Mason, Logan and Menard counties until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

At 10:31 a.m., National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the warned area with rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 3 inches across the area, and more rain is on the way.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding are Lincoln, Athens, Atlanta, Beason, Chestnut, Cornland, Elkhart, Emden, Greenview, Hartsburg, Latham, Middletown, Mount Pulaski, Petersburg and Tallula.

The Logan County emergency manager reported flooded roads in Lincoln and water flowing into Lincoln High School. In addition, 2.8 inches fell in the past hour three miles south of Chestnut.

Precautionary, preparedness actions: Excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, normally dry washes, as well as farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
