The end of the beginning. Humane Society breaks ground

After four years, the dream of a Humane Society building took its first step yesterday toward reality with the groundbreaking ceremony at its future location on Lincoln Parkway. One hundred-plus volunteers have been working tirelessly to raise enough funds to not only build the shelter, but to ensure its continued operation.

With the help of $200,000 from the Ethel Hoelscher estate, the donation of land from the Burwell family,  $380,000 collected from volunteers through fundraising activities and the LCHS building trades department helping to build the facility, the project has been a true community effort.
