[March 01, 2010]  (AP)  More wet weather was forecast for the South on Monday, with an active storm system expected to trek from the Southwest through Texas with mixed precipitation.

HardwareAs the system moves east, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico was expected to spread north and bring rain and snow to the central and southern Plains. Several inches of snow could fall in areas from the southern Texas Panhandle through central Kansas.

Isolated thunderstorms with gusty winds may accompany light to moderate rainfall across Texas through the afternoon. Wet and unsettling weather could reach the eastern Gulf Coast by evening.

In the North, a deepening trough of low pressure over the western Atlantic was forecast to continue bringing light to moderate snow and gusty winds to northern New England. Flow from this system could produce additional light snowfall across parts of the lower Great Lakes and the central Appalachians.

Out West, pleasant weather was expected to develop in most of the western third of the nation due to a dominant ridge of high pressure. Coastal and valley fog was forecast for the morning, though dry and mild weather was expected by the afternoon.

A disturbance in the eastern Pacific was forecast to trek toward the West Coast through the day and, by Tuesday, bring rain to the Pacific Northwest and northern California.

On Sunday, temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from a low of minus 6 degrees at Flag Island, Minn., to a high of 76 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
